Design and engineering
A fire system is only as good as its design
We design to NFPA 13, 14, 20, 72, 10 and 2001, or to the local code your authority enforces, in 2D or as a coordinated BIM model, and we price exactly what we draw.
What you get
Send drawings, get a design
Send us the architectural drawings or the project model. We return the layout in 2D or BIM, the calculations, the equipment selection and a priced BOQ that matches it line by line.
- Hazard classification and design basis for each area
- Sprinkler, hose cabinet, detector and extinguisher layouts on your architectural plans
- Hydraulic calculations for the most demanding area; agent quantity calculations for gas suppression rooms
- Fire pump, tank and alarm battery sizing
- Shop drawings, riser diagrams, pump room layout and alarm cause-and-effect matrix, in 2D or from a coordinated BIM model
- Material submittals with manufacturer data and listing references
- A BOQ tied line by line to the drawings
Riser diagram for a three-storey building:
- OS&Y gate valve, 6 in
- Alarm check valve, 6 in
- Riser 6 in, grooved
- Zone control assembly on each level
- Branch 1 in on each level
- Pendent sprinklers, K5.6 · 68 °C
BIM
BIM design and coordination
On projects run in BIM, we model the fire protection systems in Revit and coordinate them with the structure and the other services before anything is fabricated. The BOQ and the material we supply come from the same model, so what arrives on site is what was coordinated.
- Fire protection model covering sprinkler, hydrant, hose reel, pump room, fire alarm and gas suppression, at the level of detail the project's BIM plan requires, typically LOD 300 to 400
- Clash detection against structure, HVAC, plumbing and electrical, with clashes resolved in coordination meetings
- Coordinated shop drawings, sections and riser diagrams produced from the model
- Quantities taken off the model straight into the priced BOQ
- Open exchange in IFC or the main contractor's format, for the federated model
- As-built model at handover, for the owner's facility management
Who it is for
For contractors
Won a job with a consultant's concept design? We turn it into shop drawings and submittals you can take to the consultant, and supply the material to match.
For consultants and owners
Need a second look at a fire design? We check pump duty, pipe sizing, coverage and agent quantities and tell you what we find, including what we would change.
On site
Our engineers support installation, flushing, pressure testing, room integrity testing, pump and panel commissioning, and attend the acceptance test with the authority.
Start a design project
Tell us about the project in five short steps. An engineer reviews it and comes back with scope, programme and fee, usually within two working days.
