Check a listing before you approve it

A certificate on its own proves little. Here is how to confirm a listing or an approval in the register itself, in a few minutes.

What to look for

One line, checked

The fields that matter on any offer line, and where each one is confirmed.

Why it matters

A certificate PDF is not a listing

FM Approvals has published product alerts about falsified certificates for sprinklers and other fire protection products, some circulated to buyers in the Middle East. FM states that only products in the FM Approval Guide are FM Approved.

Four steps

How to check a listing

  1. Take the model and size from the offerOur offer names the manufacturer and model on each line, and the listing reference where you asked for one.
  2. Look it up in the registerUL Product iQ for UL listings, the FM Approval Guide for FM approvals, the certification body's own register for EN certificates.
  3. Match the scopeSame model, size, temperature, finish and trim as the register entry, for the use you are approving.
  4. Keep the reference with the submittalFile the register reference with the material submittal, so the next reviewer can check it too.
